Job Summary:
This position involves providing ideas, inputs, and analysis as an engineering team member. This position is responsible for leading and managing the development of new or improved products and/or process. This position could include supervision of engineers, designers, and technicians.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead projects and products in a manner which supports Akkerman’s company mission
- Communicate information and provide direction to engineers, technicians, sales, purchasing, manufacturing, and customers
- Perform or aid engineering analysis to support selection of parts, components, and materials
- Create and maintain project/product documentation
- Design to and ensure products are designed to applicable standards
- Establish priorities and delegate tasks
- Follow product development process as required
- Evaluate products for performance, safety, and reliability
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolve product problems in manufacturing or field
- Perform analysis of products including performance, features, cost, etc.
- Research and analyze competitive products, suggest new or improved products
- Review instruction manuals and product literature
- Provide ideas, input, and analysis of Akkerman equipment and processes
- Prepare layouts, drawings, specification and bills of material
- Other duties as required or assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering related field
- 7-plus years of technical and project management experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Self-motivated and the ability to work well with others
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of personnel
- Ability to make decisions in a timely manner
- Ability to travel domestic and abroad (10-25%)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Business and/or Project Management experience
- Experience with design and manufacturing of industrial and/or heavy equipment
- Experience with industrial and/or heavy equipment hydraulic and electrical systems
- Experience with CAD systems
Pay: $85,000 – $110,000 annually

Akkerman Inc. is currently seeking to add experienced 1st SHIFT CNC MACHINISTS to its team of outstanding employees. Candidates must have either 2 years relevant experience OR a 2 year certificate in a machining program. Day Shift operates from 6:30AM to 5:00PM Mondays through Thursday with the overtime as needed on Friday.
- Familiarity/experience with setup and operation of Okuma and Mazak brand machines is a priority
- Review instructions, take precise measurements & samples to ensure accurate production
- Plan proper sequence, and maintain neat & orderly workstation to produce parts timely and with 100% accuracy in all respects.
- Knowledge of CNC mills, lathes, VTLs, G-code, tool selection, fixturing, and precision measuring tools.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings.
Pay: $26 – $30/hour

Job Summary:
We’re looking for skilled hands-on mechanics who can assemble, refurbish, and service complex equipment. Ideal candidates come from agricultural mechanics, auto/diesel shops, or industrial maintenance backgrounds and are comfortable working across hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
What You’ll Do
- Assemble new tunneling equipment and completely refurbish used units to exacting standards.
- Work daily with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, plus light plumbing and fabrication.
- Read and interpret blueprints, hydraulic/electrical schematics, and technical drawings.
- Perform testing, inspections, troubleshooting, and root-cause diagnostics.
- Maintain high attention to detail and quality throughout every build.
- Collaborate with the team to deliver equipment that meets Akkerman’s performance standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical assembly.
- Ability to confidently read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proven problem-solving skills and a quality-first mindset.
- Comfortable with light plumbing, fabrication, or related shop work (a plus).
- 2+ years of relevant experience or completed post-secondary training in a mechanical, diesel, agricultural, or industrial maintenance field.

Job Summary
Design new, modify, or improve components and assemblies in accordance with engineering standards
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop new components, weldments, assemblies, and product improvements using 3D CAD software.
- Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and other engineering documentation.
- Generate and maintain manufacturing routers and product configuration data.
- Document and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and design revisions.
- Apply engineering standards, design guidelines, and drafting practices to all work.
- Assist with new product development projects from concept through production release.
- Participate in design reviews and engineering problem-solving activities.
- Select, specify, and evaluate mechanical and purchased components for performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
- Work closely with production personnel to support manufacturing, assembly, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in troubleshooting product, production, and field performance issues.
- Support prototype builds, testing activities, and design validation efforts.
- Review and assist with technical manuals, product literature, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, technical support, and service teams to resolve technical issues and improve products.
- Maintain engineering records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.

Required Qualifications
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0-3 years of mechanical design experience
- Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and related experience will be considered.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software and the creation of detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Ability to create and interpret 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, schematics, and product documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing mobile equipment, industrial equipment, agricultural equipment, construction equipment, or other heavy machinery.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with welded fabrications, machined components, and large assemblies.
- Familiarity with engineering change control processes and ECO systems.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing processes.
- Experience supporting new product development and product improvement projects.
Pay $22.50-$27.50/hour
