Microtunneling Intermediate Jacking Stations (IJSs) are inserted in the tunnel string at appropriate intervals to distribute thrust loads to facilitate longer drives. IJSs are custom‐fabricated to match a project’s exact pipe outside diameter.
Microtunneling IJSs are sealed to prevent intrusion of ground in the tunnel. They comprise a nonrecoverable steel housing with multiple ram segments, each exerts additional thrust, and are positioned on the steel housing interior ring.
The MTBM operator controls the IJS function from the control container console.
Features:
- Used to extend drive length potential by distributing thrust load for longer drives
- Sealed to prevent intrusion of ground into the tunnel
- Comprise a non‐recoverable steel housing with multiples of ram segments that each exert 60‐tons of thrust
- Customized to match the outside diameter of the project pipe

Testimonials
With its purchase of an Akkerman Model 5000 pump unit, skid base, and WM72C wheel machine in 2006, Northeast Remsco began its partnership with Akkerman that has resulted in its successful completion of many trenchless projects over the ensuing years using
conventional wheeled machines as well as a variety of pilot tube equipment. I call it a partnership because the Akkerman team provides advice on the best choice of trenchless equipment for a project as well as how best to overcome jobsite obstacles when
they arise, as they inevitably do. From their sales staff to their factory support team, Akkerman employees work with us to get the most we can from the equipment and to get the jobs done safely. They are a pleasure to work with!
